According to a study conducted bythe GED® Testing Service of actual GED® Test candidates, the candidates who donot pass the GED test of mathematics - both those who are close to passing andthose who failed miserably - consistently miss the same types of questions andare selecting the same wrong answers.The most often missed questions are:
  • Geometry questions
    • Pythagorean theorem
    • Area with partitioning
    • Area with variables
    • Angles and parallel lines split by transversal
    • Comparing areas and volumes
  • Calculation questions
    • Percentage
    • Ordering numbers least to greatest or greatest to least
    • Negative exponents
    • Square roots

Grant Funding for Library Literacy--Due August 26

Does your public library have a DollarStore within 20 miles, then consider applying for a grant from the  ALA Office for Literacy and Outreach Services(OLOS).  The funding comes from theDollar General Literacy Foundation to continue the American Dream Starts@ your library, a literacy initiative serving adult English languagelearners and their families.  
A primary goal of this project is to helppublic libraries in Dollar General communities add or improve library literacyservices for adult English language learners and their families.
Fundingcan be used to support volunteer literacy programs run by the library or inpartnership with local literacy programs.  Eligible libraries can nowapply online for grants range from $5,000 to $15,000.
Applicantsmust be: ·   A publiclibrary with a demonstrated need and the capacity to provide literacy servicesfor adult English language learners. ·          Locatedwithin 20 miles of a Dollar General Store, distribution center, or corporateoffice (please visit the DollarGeneral’s Store Locator online).  ·          Library systems and libraries that have previouslyreceived American Dream Starts @ your library grants are eligible to apply.

Last Chance to Complete 2002 GED Test

Last Chance toComplete the 2002 GED Test Adultsonly have 17 months to pass all five sections of the GED Test before the newtest is required in January 2014. The last time the test was changed, there wasa rush to complete all sections of the test. Archived Webinar on the 2013 GED TestBonnie and Susan again are preparing Florida for a change again in the GED test. Check out their archived webinar presented in March 12 , 2012. Students need to learn how to be an independent learner to be successful.  The Common Core Standards aren’t just impacting children.  Adults who are going back to get their high school diploma also must meet the Core Standards.
